Nancy Goplen – Head Coach

Nancy Goplen – Head Coach

Nancy is the Head Coach of the Kelowna Speed Skating Club and the Okanagan Regional Training Centre Coach.

She competed as a child and has been coaching speed skating for close to 30 years. Nancy is a former national long and short track team member. She is a 5 time National Champion and won a bronze medal at the 1977 World Short Track Championship.

Nancy is a Level 3 NCCP certified coach and a NCCP Learning Facilitator and is working towards her NCCP level 4 certification. Developing skaters to provincial, national, and international levels and mentoring other coaches are activities that Nancy enjoys. Nancy also volunteers on committees for Speed Skating Canada.

Randy Sauer – Coach

Randy Sauer – Coach

Randy got involved with the Kelowna Speed Skating Club when both his children took up the sport. Initially, he trained with Group 1 but then began coaching in 2000. In additin to his coaching duties, Randy is also a level 2 starter and has volunteered as a track steward on many occasions.

In the summer, Randy likes to get on the lake as often as he can. He’s also an avid hiker and mountain biker. He’s a regular “spinner” in Peachland and come winter time, you can find him snowshoeing in the moutains between Peachland and West Kelowna.

Chris Acton – Coach

Chris Acton – Coach

Chris grew up skating in Ontario and Quebec. After moving to Kelowna in 2008, Chris continued her coaching career with KSSC. She is an NCCP Level 3 speed skating coach. Chris particularly enjoys coaching developing skaters. She is currently coaching part-time with KSSC to allow her to have more time with her young daughters.

Dave Walsh – Coach

Dave Walsh- Coach

Dave (“Dubbz”) has coached speed skating in Ontario and in BC with KSSC. He is an NCCP-certified coach. In his spare time, Dubbz enjoys the Okanagan outdoors- biking, x-country skiing and downhill skiing.
