The Kelowna Speed Skating Club (KSSC), founded in 1998, is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping athletes develop a life-long love of speed skating and fitness while enjoying competitive success.
The KSSC is based out of the Capital News Centre located at 4105 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC. Our focus is short track speed skating although we teach the fundamental skills for long track speed skating as well. Several of our skaters compete in both disciplines.
Kelowna is also home to the Okanagan Regional Training Centre (ORTC) which serves speed skating clubs in the Okanagan and Kootenays. The purpose of the ORTC is to provide additional coaching and support to high level athletes in the region. Through the ORTC, athletes have access to a dedicated Regional Coach, Nancy Goplen, testing and seminars from Pacific Sport, and a wide variety of other resources including nutrition, training plans, camps, and other specialized programs. The ORTC also brings athletes of a similar caliber together which enhances training and fellowship. The ORTC training camps have been run in Nelson, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, and Calgary.
The KSSC is a member club of the British Columbia Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada, the national sport organization for speed skating in Canada.
